Vintage Washburn guitars website

Re: Vintage Washburn guitars website

These guitars are so rare, maybe less than 100 of each, SS 80 and SS 100 models, the chances if most guitarists even knowing what they are, let alone having the experience of playing one is remote.
Unfortunately the garbage SS 40's made by Samick in Korea were the most mass produced and most people have experience of those, which are not even on the same planet as the USA Custom Shop models.

cool! Ill check this when I get off work! Cant recall right now, but recently saw a Steve S guitar for sale for $12k.

Does the site cover the Grover Jackson era?? I have a few from that time span that are Great axes!

Man that was cool! Lots of info about a guitar I've never heard of. I've never been exposed to the good Washburn guitars really. Sounds like you have some really neat investment pieces for sure.

Kind of a bummer about the way the Barbarella guitar thing went down. I don't think Washburn behaved appropriately removing the paint off the SS-80 guitar headstocks and then reselling them as X-80's. I understand that they wanted to get rid of their stock, but you would think they could have worked something out with SS rather than just going scorched earth like that.

You are absolutely right, unfortunately I am unable to reveal exactly what SS told me, but he has absolutely handled both the Hamer and Washburn issues, with silence all these years.
Steve does absolutely love these guitars though and is very proud of his achievements with them, as he should be.
Terry Atkins who is the master builder responsible for turning Steve's dream into reality, states this is the best guitar of it's kind he has ever built.
The necks alone are an absolute dream to play and it is a great tragedy what happened to him with Washburn and the way he was treated by Hamer was even more atrocious.
It is my hope and dream that these incredible guitars finally recieve the recognition they deserve after all these years. The SS 80 and SS 100, were everything Steve had hoped for, far exceeding the Hamer SS-3.
Many other fine Washburns of this era will be covered as well so stay tuned for more updates, periodically.

Re: Vintage Washburn guitars website

I absolutely agree that the Washburn USA Chicago Custom guitars built in that 90's era are among the best in the industry. That are on par with the Hamer USA, Anderson and Suhr stuff. The prices for the USA stuff is lower than it should be for the quality and most who pick my Washys up flip out over them.
If you know what to look for you can get some INSANE steals on these guitars due to most not having a clue what they are.
For example I bought this 1996 USA Chicago Custom A-30 on ebay for $276!! The seller listed it as a Korean A-20 not a USA A-30 and with the poor photos no one else caught what it really was.
There were less than 100 of these guitars built it retailed for $2000 and this is the absolute best sounding 24.75 scale guitar I have ever owned!!

Photos do NOT do this one justice! For example the Washburn Logo is raised chrome but looks black in the photos and the flame has an 3D effect.
