who here has played through one? which one is your favorite? what are the major sound differences and aplications between the models?

The tone of Dr. Z's is basically a big fat clean tone that breaks nicely into OD.
Whichever tube style you prefer, is the best way to shop for those. They all sound great. I'd suggest a head/cab version, the lows are tighter, considering they have a real wide open sound. I had a Rt. 66 for awhile. Kind of like a Fenderish marshall,
if that makes any sense. The soundclips should be your best guide, considering
there's few dealers that stock a whole bunch of them.

I had a rt. 66 and loved it at first, but grew tired of it quickly (what's new?) haha

For me, i don't like the Dr. Z ultra linear output thing. For me, it went from soft to loud more quickly than normal. I worked with z on it and he concluded that I just didnt' like that style. The Rt 66 was just way over kill for me. It's a loud mofo.

I'd still like to try the z28. I played a Maz38 senior the other day and it sounded thin. That was, of course, right after playing several bad cats and everything else sounded thin.

The bang for the buck factor is huge though with Dr Z.
