    Re: Archtop Mahogony

Most archtops are made with Maple back and sides with a spruce top. The only Archtop I know of that is made with Mahogony is by Heritage. I don't remember the model. I have played it and it had a interesting tone, but I felt it to be lacking by comparison to the other Archtops I have played. It had a tone more like a flat top acoustic. The other factor that will effect the sound is weather it is solid wood or a laminated wood. Solid woods will respond better acousticly, but are harder to amplify at high volume/gain. They have a tendency to "howl" when you get the volume up. Laminated guitars such as a Gibson 175 are easier to control this problem.

I was referring to an All Mahogony Les Paul copy. Sorry I was not clearer.

it will not have the brightness that a maple capped lp would have. it would be more like an old black beauty, at least i think they were all mahogony. i saw the lp that gibson has put out like that and i would really like to play one but i think it would need some really bright pickups.
