  • Homemade Pearloid Pickguard?

For a Warmoth LPS I put together a few years ago, I'd gotten a pickguard blank and cut out a custom design. I plan on painting the guitar, and would really like a blue pearloid (or pearl, not sure if there's a difference) pickguard for it. My problem is that a) I don't want to go through the hassle of cutting a new one, and b) as far as I can find, pearloid pickguard blanks are pretty pricey. (though they make for nice alliterations!)

Does anybody know a way to simulate the effect? I really like the deep ones that have strong contrast between the bright blues and dark blues (like the way deep flametops stand out so much). Maybe find some kind of blue pearloid parchment or something that I could put on with spray adhesive and then spray clearcoat over? Or would that lead to disastrous results?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!
