Re: 2x12 enough for really high volumes?

It's not bad, although you might want to get a cabinet that matches the intent of your amp head. Fender cabs, even with good speakers, tend to be a bit flabby sounding, compared to a good Mesa, Bogner, VHT, or Avatar with the same speakers.
I have two Bogner cabs loaded with Vin 30's, a 4-12 and a 2-12. A 2-12 is adequate for moderate volumes, but doesn't have the same rich tone that a 4-12 has IMO.
All I can say is I'll use the 2-12 in places where the 4-12 looks like overkill, but I know in my head that my tone is always better with the 4-12 behind me.

Reminds me of Yngwie. Nothin sounds better than a wall of Marshalls.

        Or was that Nigel Tufnel?

Any of you guys found that a 2x12 was too small for you?

Also, could the fact that the cab is small for a 2x12 contribute to muddying up the sound at high volumes?
I have spent 15 years playing "mostly high gain rock" and the 2 x 12 I have now I can seldom turn up past 6.

            It's too big!!!

No, the only one who can muddy up the sound is you. However... Open back cabinets kinda sound bath-tubish to me, as far as "high gain rock" goes. Closed back seem to apply better to us metalheads, emo guys, and general practicioners of violence.

...i don't think emo & violence are synonymous at all

I've NEVER had any reason to have more than a 212 onstage. Let the main system do the work. And I've used Fender amps and cabinets for a long time, too, and have never found them lacking in the area of high gain response.
