I'm looking at buying a guitar that has a 2xP90 pickguard, and want to put in Jazzmaster pickups. I can rout the body with a Dremel, but how would I go about cuttung the guard?- ive tried doing it before and it ended up a complete disaster.

It's very tricky.. your better off buying a new custom pick guard..I had one made for one of my guitars and it came out great...I think I had WD make it....I put two P-90's in one of my guitars that originally had 2 humbuckers....it turned out great...

Make a 1/4" MDF template of the pickguard.
Attach the pickguard material with 2-sided tape to the template.
Drill reference holes as large as your router bit.
Use a flush trim bit to route the pickguard to the template shape.
(Any rotary tool & bit could be used for this.)
Use a chamfer bit to get that nice beveled edge.
(Not sure if they make a chamfer bit for rotary tools, but I think they do)
Remove pickguard from template.
Install on guitar.
Rock out.
