The color on that one is mislabled. It is not faded denim....it's the standard blue on the Dean website (midnight blue). Still a damn nice guitar for a decent price.

I kinda thought that it was a little bright to be faded denim. Either way, it shure is pretty. If the back would have been a natural finish I would be in love with it.

.......and I have played one of them at my local music store!!!!!! Although only for a little while as the chap who owns it did not want me to play it for too long unless I was serious about buying it. Was nice to play and that ebony board was very nice and slick, it is even better looking in the flesh very tempting!!

Although the guy is going to be getting a Ibanez George Benson guitar in very soon and I am determined to get there and play it as soon as it comes in.

However back to Dean's - lovely but expensive when compared to others?

The faded denim finish does alter, that's why I thought it was it. I figured the picture could change it a bit too.

You're right, Dean couldn't possibly build a guitar as poorly built as a PRS . Sorry dude, I'm not a fan of PRS guitars. I love my three Hardtail's.

I believe that dollar for dollar you get more for your money compared to the PRS (comparing new or near new "showroom condition" type guitars). The PRS has more prestige, has been around longer, and was very inovative. One is not better than the other, as everyone has a personal preference as to what is best...

Dean Hardtails come standard with the following:

Grover Tuners
Graptech Nut
Ebony Board
Custom Abalone/Sterling Silver Inlay
Seymour Duncan Pickups
Tone Pro's Bridge
Natural Binding
All have "10" tops or better.

You get all of this for a standard retail price of under $2000 - most of the time you can pick one up on eBay for $1400. I've had quotes for new one's on the internet as low as $1400-1500 if one is on sale. $1800-1900 is the typical no haggle, joe schmoe off the street price.

What would a comprable PRS cost with the following:

McCarty or Custom 22
Stop Tail
10 top
Birds

$2200-2400....more? The price at GC sometimes runs $2800 and up for the nicest PRS's. You can pick up McCarty's or CU 22's on eBay depending on the current market mood with 10 tops and birds for $1800 and up, sometimes a little less if you don't mine a little playwear or some small dings. But we're talking showroom or near showroom condition for this comparison.

Now you have to add for the items that the PRS doesn't have. Lets leave the tuners out of it, as I hear the PRS tuners are actually very nice, especially the locking one's.

Graphtec Nut (part + install and filing) - $50 give or take
Ebony board - n/a from PRS
Seymour Duncan Pickups - $150 not including install for something in Nickel Cover
Tone Pro's Bridge - $50

So let's add another $250 roughly to the price of a standard PRS to get approximately = to the appointments on the PRS. Pretty good price differential I think.

However, the PRS will more than likely hold it value better over the long term than the Dean. The Dean is a much newer instrument, and has not achieved the market popularity of the PRS. IMO comparing the Dean to a PRS is better understood if you look at the difference between say a Marshall or a Mesa head as opposed to a Matchless or Soldano. The Matchless or Soldano is more expensive, has better components and arguably have better sound. But does that make them better than Marshall or Mesa? No...it's only better if you like it better.

You get more dollar for dollar Dean vs PRS.....but the rest is personal taste. You do pay for the PRS logo on the guitar....how much it that worth to you? I still want to own a McCarty or a CU22 - they're great instruments and probably better investments. Just my thoughts....as most here know I love the Hardtail (with a passion), but won't diss PRS.

That's not true. Using Jeff H.'s numbers the dollar loss between a Dean, and a PRS is actually the same $400 to $500.
