  • I'm a convert !!!

    I converted:

from the school of guitar-effects-amp = tone

to the school of - guitar-amp-chord = muchos tone

getting the tube amp made me convert.....today had my first chance to crank it. w/ 5 year old sovteks and the stock speaker (also 5 yrs) this well worn clean channel starts to break up about 4, gets nice about 6, and i didnt push it past 8, it was getting tooo loud.

tube amp saturation is all the tone i'll ever need.

the distortion on this thing kicks, ad does verb, as does clean.

i think im gonna keep my 3 pedals, you never know when they could come in handy. i think im gonna start putting them in 1 at a time: a wah is essentail, the distortion im gonna use as a lead tone boost, and the comp as i used to,always on. eventaully i think ill have them all back in, but im definately not gonna build a huge pedal board, i think id like to own many pedals, but only have 2-5 rigged up at a time...

Yeah man, I thought I was done for when the battery in my DS-1 ran out, 'cuz I'm dirt poor and couldn't possibly afford a fresh nine-volt. I soon found that the cranked Bassman has a perfectly fine distortion sound...

          Re: I'm a convert !!!

I like both. I prefer to just plug in and play, but when you're trying to make your guitar parts more colorful in a band setting, some nice FX are a good route to go.
I don't know if you're a convert, or just in the "plug and play" phase.
I think of them as phases, not a lifechange. Just my 2 cents.

                joneser, i dont know.

this is my 1st tube amp, so i guess time will tell, but with my old ss p.o.s. i always had all my fx rigged up and had at least one on at all times, they were "my sound".

now its like, playing on channel b with gain on 5 and volume at 1.5, using old beaten tubes and speaker, that is "my sound" and im getting all the tone i need. fx i now will use occasionally to mix it up / color my sound, instead of using them to create my sound.

either way its a good thing

Effects are great hear and there, it's just not good to use them as a crutch for songwriting

They are all just tools for playing.

I think Joneser is right. Once the new joy of tubetone wears off you'll find yerself toyin with yer pedals again. But I bet you dont use em to the extent you cover that wonderful tube tone. Its organic man! One you go tube you'll never go back!
