Purchased yesterday. Modified this morning. Heading to my brother for December 25th. One shop-soiled Squier VM fretless J Bass, greatly enhanced by a pair of Basslines Lightnin' Rods Jazz Bass pickups.
Some of you already know that I am a fan of the Made In Indonesia Vintage Modified instruments. This bass was yet another example that punches well above its MSRP weight.
The stock Duncan Designed JB-101 pickups have respectable tone but not enough output. Needless to say, the Lightnin' Rods pickups cured that right away. I am currently making minor screwdriver adjustments to the pickup heights and contemplating whether to squeeze a stacked knob two band active EQ into the instrument?
Truth be told, this model could do most of what I require with just a bridge position LR pickup and a Blackouts For Bass EQ kit. My brother, being something of a Luddite, will probably be content with a simple treble roll off pot.
