I've always thought it had something to do with making music being one of the few culturally acceptable ways for a man to completely and unrestrictedly emotionally express himself. Women are expected to show their emotions so they don't have to be driven into one particular corner of self expression as men are.

Every 2-3 years someone makes this same thread. If you search, female members here have already answered this themselves. You'll have to be logged in and use the Duncan forum site search because most often this conversation has been in the Sound Room / Off Topic room, which is private and doesn't show up in Google or other search results.
