Weirdest thing happened last week... Watching a Cream vid, enjoying sunshine of your love and playing along on an unplugged electric when I noticed a strange wah effect that was messing up Claptons wah.
after I became aware of it, I realized that the sound was not coming from the speakers. I hit pause and strumed a few chords and realized that the wah was coming from my unplugged Ibanez rc365!
It turns out that I have to lean the guitar a bit back when I'm sitting on the sofa. As a result my right arm was covering the f-hole from time to time as I strummed and produced a subtle but clear wah effect. It blew my mind to realize that you could get an acoustic wah sound because I've never thought of this before.
I used to do a lot of resonate recordings for sound design and often had similar effects but never thought of getting this filtering effect from a hollow-body..
it was a complete accident on multiple levels. The Ibanez is usually sitting in the workshop because it's primarily a proof-of-concept platform and it's one of the few thin lines that I have owned. And this was the first time I had picked up the Ibanez to run scales while watching videos.
Of course it's nearly impossible to control and there is probably little or no potential to use this effect in the real world, however it was pretty cool to find something that I was entirely unaware of after all of these years.
And I might record it and try to find a project that needs an auto wah loop!)
Anyone else ever noticed a semi hollow wah effect?
