  • What are some budget guitars with Mahogany bodies?

Thats the only thing i really want is the body made of Mahogany

Ive done the Epiphone thing, and ive done the Ibanez, what other guitars out there in a budget price range use Mahogany?

Most PRS are a bit over my budget, about $300. and under.

Ive tried Ibanez so no Ibanez and no Epiphones.

I want to try something else with Mahogany bodies

That's tough. Most guitars in that price range are going to be basswood.

ESP LTD has the EC-256 for $400. Schecter has the Omen Extreme for the same price. Both are mahogany bodied.

Godin Exit 22 sold new for about 300$ and was all mahogany body. Maple neck with either maple or rosewood fingerboard. You can still pick them up cheap. They're excellent guitars, great sculpted heel joint.

Those Godins are solid guitars. Over time you can swap the pickups out and it will be a great instrument.

1980s Gibson "The Paul" WAS the classic budget mahogany guitar

But after Gibson reissued, the originals skyrocketed

I always liked that series, but the headstock is comically large.

Re: What are some budget guitars with Mahogany bodies?

Define "mahogany", I dont know of any cheaper guitar that uses any species of swietenia, they are all either "chinese" mahogany a wood called toona sinensas or toona ciliata which is Indian mahogany or another wood that has had the name mahogany attached to it.

It all depends on how much of a stickler you want to be over the word mahogany. If you just want someone to tell you "this is mahogany" you can find plenty. But in general swietenia macrophylla and swietenia mahogani are considered genuine mahoganies. S. Mahogani hasnt been used much commercially for 70 years,S. macropylla is what we know as Honduran mahogany, it can still be found but tends to be expensive so tends to get saved for more expensive builds. Khaya is what is known as african mahogany and has been accepted as a "real" mahogany for a long time. It is the closest to honduran mahogany of all the alternative mahoganies. Its roughly the same hardness and color but tends to be a bit heavier per board ft.

The other woods sold as mahogany all make fine guitars. If you are after a guitar made of straight grain reddish brown wood that is pretty easy to find. If you are a stickler and want genuine mahogany your choices will be limited but still possible.

The Paul was walnut, not mahogany.

Not true. The Paul had several models in Mahogany too.

Older PRS Santana SE models were great mahogany guitars for the price, and can be had used for around 300. Can't think of much else I would recommend for under 300.

I had a Charvel Desolation DS-1 trans-black finish that was all mahogany, oiled neck (super smooth!), and active SD blackouts.. I got it on a musiciansfriend SDOTD in 2013, and had to sell it in 2016 when I moved..

It was a beast, I really regret selling that thing.. Anyways it was $250 or $300 new so I'm sure you could pick one up cheap secondhand..
