Gibson can't touch Edwards since they are a Japanese only company, and Japan doesn't recognize Gibon's trademarks, and you can't buy a new Edwards in the US unless you have it shipped from Japan, I think that Japanese retailers advertising new Edwards (or ____________) with shipping to the US on Reverb and ebay may be in some grey territory, but it if is advertised as used, or probably "demo" there isn't much the big "G" can do.

Oh, and back to the OP, beautiful guitar, congrats!
Yes, I was refering to ESP imports under US laws, as I know inside Japan there is no recourse or reciprocity on trademark or patent law.

Does ESP not wholesale import the LTD LPs to the states either? or any of the slightly questionable models?

I see everyone having them, but I do not see them in retail stores often.

And by "honor" I mean the Japanese mfg is not going to sneak imports that are deemed illegal on US soil -From a reseller -sure -but Chines Mfgs are all over direct imports that are illegal -they are constantly breaking the law.

Chinese trademark laws are really different from 'ours', and by ours I mean American and European. I am no lawyer but MY lawyer told me that it's easier to lose a trademark in China and that enforcing a trademark is absolutely key, much more so than in the EU or USA.

By LTD LPs, do you mean the Eclipse/EC? If so, yes, they are everywhere. I don't think LTD/ESP has anything closer to an LP than the EC models, Edwards makes the ones like in the OP for 1/2 or less of a "GLP". If they go after ESP, I'm sure they will go after the parent company to get ESP and Schecter in one swoop, the Solo Custom is more LP-ish than the EC.

Which Chinese mfrs are you talking about? Eastman? They make great handmade guitars, definitely the high end of MIC guitars. Are they similar enough? Don't know, again, G lost to PRS in 2004/2005 when they tried to go after the Singlecut and, IMHO, it was more LP-ish that the LTD, Schecter, or Eastman. Makes it easier on the defense lawyers since they have the previous ruling to bring in and it is still recent enough to be very relevant.

Interestingly this guitar seems to be a Jimmy Page model that a previous owner tried to convert to 59 specs.

Gold tuners, Klusson-style, but there are very clear indentations around them, indicating that it used to house Grover-style ones. The jack plate is gold, and the old Grover-lookalike tuners would have been gold too. The strap pins look EXACTLY like the ones in the JP model.

That is one sweet looking guitar that would make Mark Agnasty's eyes pop out. What are the specs on the guitar? Does it have a maple cap or veneer? How are the tuners? They look solid from the photos.

It's a flame veneer over a solid maple cap. The body and neck are Asian Mahogany.

I don't mind the veneer. The tone is there, and so are the looks, even if it's "cheating".

The tuners seem fine. It's stuffed with rolled thick paper to make the tuners fit.

That being said, I've already ordered some Grovers simply because I'm not too big a fan of Kluson style tuners.

Nice guitar! I’m jealous. Despite all the equipment I’ve owned, it’s remained a dream guitar for me to have a Jimmy Page / 59 type Les Paul like that. Someday.

Japan has its own copyright, trademark and patent laws. As long as you secure equivalent protection in their system, it will be the same as if your patent or copyright or trademark spans borders. I hold one patent in both the US and Japan and had to apply separately with local legal representation to get them awarded. They were awarded several years apart also. But now for me it’s as if the same patent was issued across both countries.

It is TOO funny that "Sweet Edwards Guitar" thread is mostly about Gibson dumb-@$$ery. The fail - my god.....I really really need to call them.

And Gibson doesn't want to stop anyone. They just want a "piece" of the action. $10 on every new Ibanez Artcore, Dean V/Z and half the ESP line would make them rich beyond their wildest dreams.
