  • Offset-ish Tele Shape?

I'm in the process of commissioning the local luthier to build me a "homegrown" Telecaster styled build. The body wood will be sourced from a pine tree I have cut from my property and the neck will come from a hickory tree that I also fell.

I'm going for a possibly angled license plate pickguard, a sinple wraparound bridge, and a natural, though possibly stained, finish. The pickups will be a TV Jones Classic neck and a Fender '51 Nocaster bridge. I'm thinking about for the controls just a simple volume control and a Fender style blade switch.

I don't want to just copy the Tele body shape because I prefer an offset body shape and body contouring, but I want it to be somewhere in the same ballpark. A more offset Peavey Omniac with rounded edges and contouring would be a good place to start, but I'm looking for a more rustic, "made from papa's barn" look.

So I was wondering if you guys knew of any body shapes in particular that strike you as fitting this description. A few things I haven't quite set in stone are whether or not to include the license as part of the control plate or to fabricate a separate control plate that attaches, and if I do, whether or not to keep a Tele style control plate or a crescent shape more similar to a EBMM Stingray.

What are you guys thoughts? Oh, and here are some gratuitous photos:

I think big CBS 70s headstock look better on Teles

You will never understand How it feels to live your life With no meaning or control And with nowhere left to go You are amazed that they exist And they burn so bright

I'm actually trying to avoid the Jazzmaster look. Maybe "skewed" would have been a better term than "offset".

That green one looks pretty good though.

Me too, but for this one I'm actually thinking about a reverse Tele headstock with Firebird tuners. I recently found out just how much I enjoy the more neutral wrist position when tuning.

I think I might use this as a base design, but scaled down a little bit and maybe a bit more skewed. Then I'll use a license plate pickguard and retrofit a Mustang style control plate onto it.

Just one last question, how would I be able to add an offset to this outline through computer software? I want to be able to fiddle with the exact skewedness of the model.

The only thing I don't like about this guitar is it has the exact Peavey 90s headstock. Should change it a little for originality.

                              But damn, what a guitar.
