  • My witch hat knobs don't fit. Please help.

I have this new wiring harness that I like quite a bit that has CTS pots:

I thought I could just push on these witch hat knobs on cause they say they are good for CTS but they were too big. Just flop right off.

I'm guessing the type of CTS pots that come on that harness are a different size than standard but having a tough time figuring out what to do. Is there a different size witch hat? Can I get an adapter bushing or something else to make them stick?

    Thanks internet friends!

Return the knobs and get traditional set screw witch hats. Then get those Allparts brass split-to-solid adapter sleeves.

Plumber's teflon tape worked for me.

When you've had budget guitars for a number of years, you may find that your old instrument is holding you back. A quality guitar can inspire you to write great songs, improve your understanding of the Gdim chord while in the Lydian Mode, cure the heartbreak of cystic acne--and help you find true love in the process.

              Those pots are solid shaft.

The problem, as you are aware, is that you bought solid shaft pots and split shaft knobs. Those are incompatible. You can either replace the pots with CTS split shaft pots, or replace the knobs with ones designed for solid shafts (with a set screw). You probably won't need the bushings...those are used for putting solid shaft knobs on split shaft pots.

                  If this is true
One could drill and tap for a small set screw in each knob

The photos of the harness show split shaft knobs, but the description states solid shaft knobs.

Yes, but...the knobs are plastic and wouldn't hold such a small screw. The threads in the knobs would strip with very small force.

Very small screw and many are made that way

I have several devices with threaded plastic with set screws

But new knobs would solve the problem for around $5

hi gang! They are in fact split shaft knobs and the push on (no screw) witch hats don't fit. I am pretty sure that the issue is that CTS has a few different shaft sizes and these are slightly smaller than normal (just like your dad).

I got the bushings and set screw type now. Should be all good! Thanks for the help.
