Got a 2H Strat body on the way. Already have a neck or two I can put on it.
First idea:
When I bought the body on a whim, my original thought was to make this a slide only guitar. But seeing how cool it looks, it might be a shame to pigeonhole it.
If I make it slide only, I can use this '96 MIJ '60s reissue Strat neck that I've had sitting here for decades. My old guitar tech gave it to me when I was a teenager. Another customer of his had attempted to re-fret it and give it a compound radius, and ruined it in the process. The frets are gone in the high register, with plenty of chip-out to go along with the empty slots. And the board up there was badly flattened. But it would work for slide. My intent all these years has been to remove and replace the fretboard with a new one, but it has been sitting here on the shelf for, quite literally, over two decades. Maybe I should just slap it on a slide guitar and call it good.
If I want it to be a regular guitar, I have the neck off of my '04 MIM Strat, which I have owned since new. It has never come off the guitar except for mods. I plan on putting a nicer Allparts neck on the guitar soon, so the guitar's original neck will be freed up. It's just a MIM neck, but I've made it nicer over the years. Sperzels, bone nut, fret work, polished finish. It doesn't have the 7 1/4" radius, which I really like, but at least it has vintage style frets, which I love.
Pickups – not sure yet. Things I have considered: Saturday Night Specials. Whole Lotta Humbuckers. Custom Custom neck and '59/C Hybrid bridge (for the slide option). DMZ 36ths, PAF Masters, or PAF '59s. EMG 57/66, or 66/66.
