  • Which tone caps for DD's?

The schematics here show a .047 tone cap with HB's.

I've asked people what they use, most say .022, althought I don't think they have DD's.

I do like to make the neck pup real fat for lead work.

I've got a project to do and I just want to do it once, Epi Lp Studio.

    Advice please.

    Thanks

Hello buddy..Thought I'd chime in for you since no one else has...Well...The most common tone control cap for the most part and widely used is either .02 or .022 because it sits right in the middle of everything and how it works in your tone circuit..The bigger you make the tone cap,the faster you "shunt" or remove the highs from your circuit to ground..Also,the bigger the tone cap,the faster the tone rolls off into a darker tone as you roll towards 0 on your tone pot..The bigger tone cap is also going to give you the darkest tone with the tone control on 0...The tone cap also does have an effect on the tone control even with the tone control set to 10 unless you opt to either make or buy the No Load Tone Pot...This pot is designed to remove both the tone cap and the resistance of the pot when set to 10...As soon as your tone pot gets to 9,it then starts acting like a standard tone pot...In answering your original question,I feel it would be best to continue experimenting with tone cap values..The most common are .01 .015 .02 .022 .033 .047 and .1
If you are feeling like your tone is still too bright and thin and you are using 500k pots, try 250K in it's place..This will beef up the tone a bit and remove some highend shrill...Hope I helped shed some ideas for ya?

      Thanks much STRATDELXER97.

      That was a great help.

How much does the cap effect tone at 10? If it's a bigger cap, would 10 still be darker than an .022?

With the DDn, you wont have a problem with .047 or .022. That is a fat fat sounding pickup.

Higher values will still affect your tone at 10, unless you have one of those bypass pots for a tone control. I use .022 caps for everything.
