  • Tube question...

I'm gettin' some yellow jackets for my amp and now I'm studying up on tubes. What does "hardness" mean.

By the way, when I cracked open my Blue Voodoo after getting all of your responses I found it had 5881 tubes and not 6L6's. Hope the yellow jackets work, though I've heard the 5811 and 6L6 are interchangable (right?)
    My songs....enjoy! (hopefully )

    Re: Tube question...

hardness refers to how high you can turn the volume before the tube starts to distort. the harder the tube, the cleaner the tube.

      Re: Tube question...

Thanks! so a hardness of say 2 would distort way faster than 8.

          A 5881 is a 6L6WGB, they'll just break up a little sooner than a 6L6GC.
