It's a light and brittle wood from the Brazilian Amazon that has a yellowish look to it and is known for being resistant to insects. So, while I'm not sure how it will sound, you at least can be secure in knowing termites won't get to it.

        All I know about it:

There is an African guy called Marupa or Mgurupa and Alabi, he is the pharmacist (a brilliant one, a great guy with extraordinary sense of humour) here in my village. Yes, in Hungary

          Re: What is Marupa?

YES, i´ll clarify it for yah
it is a white/yellowishy wood, from Brazil, it is more suitable to Stratocaster and telecaster constructions .
it has Bold Highs, and its overal sound is similar to Korina, Poplar, Sycamore.
i had 2 guitars with that wood. and it can handle metal.
it is not a very bright like maple wood, it has well balanced sound, not proeminnent highs. good bass and highs.
          Hope it Helps.

                  Re: What is Marupa?

It is light colored wood from south america used for making musical instruments, frames and other lightweight wooden objects... not so strong mechanically but resist the attack of insects.

Look... It is a type of crap wood used in musical instruments of the worst kind here in Brazil, rubbish!

If you look at pallets on conveyors, they are usually that kind of crap, not to mention fruit boxes ...
