Just remember RESALE VALUE. Some of the lower end guitars even though they are good playing and sound good, they don't have much in resale value. MArtin & Taylor out of all the above mentioned have good resale value. SO consider if you are going to make this purchase and upgrade later, nuy something that will give you good trade in value. If you are looking to spend a little less look at the Martin Sigma line. They are very good low end Martin guitars. All solid wood play and sound great, and are under 500. ......... The other thing to consider is the type of woods you want. Rose will be a darker, more bottom end than Mahogony. Play a bunch before you decide!!Good Luck!!!!Last edited by Bludave; 03-19-2004, 03:52 PM."So you will never have to listen to Surf music again" James Marshall Hendrix

Yeah Man...I'm trying to play as many as I can. I'm in no hurry & I'm really looking for a guitar that I'll no longer be interested in trading up for. I want something that I'm gonna want 5-10-20 years from now. So, I guess I'm gonna really give the Martins & Guilds a real good look....there was also a Taylor that I really liked the other day...........STOP STOP IT RIGHT NOW.......
Sorry...real bad GAS attack...!!!!!Last edited by PUCKBOY99; 03-19-2004, 05:50 PM.

No man, you're not pushing. I asked for your opinion & I appreciate it!
The shop I went to had just the one Norman, but he said he'll order anything I want at no cost...so what's it hurt to just try it, right???

I just picked up a Samick Greg Bennett D-8CE . Don't let the price
fool you. This is a Fine instrument. B4 you drop $1000 on a Acoustic check out the Bennett's. The D-8 is their middle of the line guitar. It retails for around $349
and I found it to be better than $500 to$700 guitars Like alverez's etc. You get alot of bang for your buck with the Bennet's

Sounds good to me...they (Samicks) look like they've come a long way in the past few years!
BTW...anyone know what, if any, is the difference between an older Guild vs. the Fender Guilds? More assemblyline type production vs more attention to detail???

No, the Guilds are owned by Fender, but they're built in Corona, California. I was just wonderring if there was a quality difference between the Rhode Island Guilds & the Fender Guilds....

The Guild factory moved to Westerly, RI in 1967 and operated there until Fender moved manufacturing to Corona a few years ago. Over the 30 plus years there have been ups and downs in quality, but Guilds have been pretty consistent and didn't share Gibson and Fender's 70's quality woes.
When the move to Corona was made Fender took the opportunity to redesign Guild's acoustics closer to the original specs of the 60's models. Concensus seems to be that quality has improved from recent RI production.John Cipollina August 24, 1943 - May 29, 1989
