    That's a cool idea!

Yeah, thanls for explaining that! I am always curious about the motivations behind builds. I dig all the individual stories, and I love seeing the pictures here.

I assume you are asking how I come up with the ideas? Or about how do I get the materials and finish them?

As for the ideas... I kinda look at the guitar and try to match it up with the music. So for the metal guitar above I was thinking that the guitar was pretty cool inexpensive guitar. It is an Ibanez Grg131 made in China guitar with red binding and red inlays on the neck. It REALLY cool. And it is in the right price range to do a project... so I was originally thinking of another Maiden guitar but I've done too many already so then I was like, why not a classic metal guitar? I had a bunch of CD labels and a few books that provide illustrations of record covers so I went that route. Made sense as the guitar is definitely METAL.

The Rush bass above... I wanted to do a Rush bass (I'm a huge Rush fan) since I had not done a bass yet. I really wanted to use a Squier Classic Vibe bass with the block inlays like Geddy's but they run $400+ and I don't want to put the time and effort into a project that would be unmovable due to price. So I figured let's do a basic Squier bass instead. The Fender guitars are terrible for my projects because they have too many flowing corners and edges... I need FLAT and hard edges if possible. But I made it work... and the pickguards get in the way of the graphics so I decided to try to flow the CD labels across the body ONTO the pickguard. It wasn't easy but it turned out pretty sweeet.

Last year I had someone I work with ask me to design some guitars for her kids using comic books - so I found a way to use some heavy-paper books (not traditional comic books). They turned out super cool so then I started looking for comic book character ideas for guitars... this one is based on like mid-50s/60s comic book covers. I used a wall poster that reproduced all these cool covers so I cut them out and applied them.

Thanks! The Super Mario was a fun project. Might do a Star Wars one as I have a SW poster that has all the characters from the movie...
