  • What J200

Well I've got GAS pretty bad and fancy a j200 style guitar.

No I can't afford the real thing so I was wondering what you guys would suggest - budget is probably around £300-£500

Have seen a couple of nice Antoria's on Ebay and there is this pretty looking Washburn on there at the moment.

I only know 3 chords but I play 'em real good

I've been looking at the Washburns myself recently, but I haven't had a chance to play any yet. I've been eyeing the J28SCE DL and the J28S DL myself.

Looks like a nice guitar and although does not quite have the same vibe as a Gibson SJ 200 it should be OK. If you do get it change the strings from 10-47 and get 13-56 as it will be very thin sounding and won't do the guitar any good. I can only imagine the person who owns it is more used to playing electrics.

I've got 10's on my APX and I've lately thought it sounds a bit tinny compared to my Yamaha DW6.

Do you think it would benefit from thicker strings?

Defnitely I would go up to 13s if not 12s that way you should get a better sound - if you can get some bronze wound strings so much the better. It is difficult for some players to adapt, particlarly if they mainly use electrics but you will get used to it. FWIW I use 10s on all my electrics and 13s on my acoustics (Takamine, Fyldes).
