Funny thing- in the early 80s, Fender came out with a Strat that had all gold hardware, except the tuners.

.... a bit off topic, but I remember Gibson had a Limited Edition SG, with three single coil pickups! :o
It sounded and looked awesome. Too bad I couldn't get it, while it was produced and for sale... :/
