  • Deep Neck pocket on strat body

I ordered an unknown brand strat body from eBay (big mistake, i know!) Since I'm not a total dummy, i started measuring the neck pocket before installing the neck. It turns out the neck pocket is 20mm deep!! It should be 16mm. That would've torn my fretboard off if i started screwing it on! I know i have several options such as using shims, but I'm just curious as to how the pros on here would go about it. Thank y'all!

Good thing you checked! It is possible to make a 4mm shim, though. Or buy another body.

if it was me, id make a shim the exact size of the pocket of a similar wood as the body if you can, or maple if you cant find the body wood. or another hardwood if you cant find maple. shouldnt take too long and seems to be the best of the non-too-great options
