  • Putting EL34's in a mesa fixed biased for 6L6's....

Okay so Bob tells me my mesa .50 caliber + 112 combo is fixed bias, and it takes two 6L6's for the power section. I was wondering what is involved if i wanted to change them to EL34's one day, and if i can do it with the fixed bias or with yellow jackets or something...?

Have a bias pot installed...Your amp then becomes an adjustable fixed bias amp..Kind of an oxy moron really...

If its a fixed bias amp, then its Not suggested for you to put different tubes than 6L6 type tubes. Contact Mesa and ask them if the amp can handle EL34 or other type tubes after the amp is biased.

Some amp cant handle the current drawn by different tubes even if the bias is changed.

Some of the mesa's the rectifiers specifically allow you to flip a switch and the you make the change.
