  • Philosophical Question: Strat/Les Paul vs. “Hybrid”

    Imagine a continuum:

    “Strat” (1) ———————(5)——————— (10) “Les Paul”

Hybrids can clearly fall anywhere in this line.... A Strat with a bridge Humbucker is closer to “Strat” than “Les Paul”. Where would this guitar fall, in your opinion?

    Mahogany body, Maple Cap
    2 Humbuckers
    Mahogany neck, rosewood board
    24.75” Scale, 22 frets
    Tune o Matic
    Bolt on neck

Give me the number.... I’m curious about discussion, but mostly I want a definitive statement.
    Oh no.....

    Oh Yeah!

        8. Some Les Pauls have maple tops. Really the only thing on there definitely "Strat" is the bolt-on neck. IMO. Start nudging the electronics though and the number starts to change...

That’s the idea.... actually, how much would a Warmoth “Less Paul” sound like a Gibson?
          Oh no.....

                  It'd be a 10 - Les Paul except for the bolt-on neck.

I say 6.5. This is sort of where I am going with my Warmoth project. More on the LP-side of the formula without the weight and set neck.

the OP doesn't state the body shape
if it is a strat body shape its more strat
if it has the traditional cut of the LP then it scales more that way

the Epi LP100 is an example of a Les Paul with a bolt on neck

This range fascinates me. With how cool the parts I have just received from Warmoth look for a super Strat, I’m drooling over what I can do as a Les Paul that would be a $6K CS Gibson for 25% of that. Of course, the bolt on neck is the big difference. There’s someone here that has a couple of Warmoth Les Paul style guitars in blue, right?
                        Oh no.....
