  • NGD. Ibanez SEW761FM

The stock DiMarzios (Tone Zone / True Velvet / True Velvet) aren't my thing, finding them too dark, so I will soon replace them with Duncans.

Will also change bridge and tuners to Gotoh hardware.

Neck is a Wizard III, plays well, and frets feel fine, no sprout anywhere.

Meranti body, roasted maple neck, rosewood board. Overall tone seems balanced, probably with a slightly more pronounced bass, but that can be due to the pickups. Has a good amount of sustain and resonance, considering it has a three-piece body.

Will update info once I get the upgrades done.

Ideally, a reverse zebra 59/Custom for the bridge, and two creme Vintage Hot Stacks, if I can find one that's RWRP. If not, I'm getting a Classic Stack middle.

Well, this is actually the top model in the S Standard line, but the only upgrade are the DiMarzios ... for those who consider that an upgrade!

Will be going with a set of SG381 Magnum locking tuners, and a GTC102 bridge.

Lastly, a GraphTech TusqXL nut is also a must.

I like that. I'd rock that with 'creme' PATBs that I'm lusting for in the DMZ creme trademark thread.

Creme PATBs with gold mini poles would be awesome!

Sweet. Is the color pink-ish? Or is it just my monitor?

But can you actually install a Duncan in the bridge? Looks like typical DiMarzio humbucker routing

Wood supply has become so desperate Ibanez is using industrial wood like meranti. My bathroom door is meranti and it's not even a top of the line material. You can imagine Ibanez's profit margin from using cheaper non traditional wood.

Soon we're gonna see Steinway in meranti for a thousand.

Well, alder and ash were considered cheap woods when a guy called Clarence Leonidas started a company in Fullerton a few years back...

Yes, you can, my tech installed a PATB set in my RG, which is routed for direct mounted DiMarzios.

Oh, I didn't take that personally; it's just that woods we may find weird today may become a standard for tomorrow.

Was a bit suspicious about meranti myself, but I'm actually surprised.
