WD-40 was intended as a water dispersing spray. Hence WD.

You realize that is the exact same thing as a "Penetrating Oil" right?

If I remember correctly, it's Water Displacement...

No argument there. It's fine, but I can name 4 brands that are more effective penetrating oils now-a-days -but in the 70s -WD40 what the sh*t!

Yes, it was designed as a penetrating oil AKA water displacement oil -for some reason people used it for regular lubricant applications a lot growing up -which it's not good at.

              I stand corrected.

              Real men use Swarfega though.

WD-40 is a terrible type of lubricant for most things except getting things initially moving that are stuck -which is what is designed for.
Agreed, and duct tape is for ducks.

And today gaffer's tape is preferable to duct tape for most musical applications.
Still, it was duct tape that literally saved the Apollo 13 astronauts.
In their time, WD-40 and duct tape both became iconic.
Once something's an icon, it stays that way.
Even after something better comes along.

The polyurethane glue expands into a foamy mess.

I’ve read that some luthiers use it to glue braces. I think it’s awful glue.
