I thought so also but look harder there are two knobs next to his right hand. I do not see a pickup so I am thinking piezo.

Yeah, Gibson seems to miss pretty hard on non-traditional shapes. They can't get the 'new, but looks classic' formular right.

Some piezos sound great with gain. Both of my Fishman pickups take to gain great.
