  • Mesa DC-30 v. F-30

I've been looking for a small tube combo for a bit now and I just stumbled on one of these older Mesas (the Dual Caliber series). They seem to be the predecessors of teh F series. Any thoughts?

I really like the nomad 45s because they have the solo boost, but the DCs can be had for under $350 so it might be somethign to consider

let me know whats up you amp junkis

I have a DC-10 (100/60w model) from the Dual Caliber Series.....

When they stopped making them and replaced them with the Nomads a few years ago I tried a Nomad and have to agree that the Nomad seems to be a little sterile sounding in comparison to the DC's......I haven't tried an F series as yet but I have a few days of killing time in the city so I'll revisit this post after I've tried one......the common preconception is that the F series is like "my first Boogie", but, a few of my students have tried them and say they sound like "a typical MB" for what that's worth

the F serires definately rivals the more expensive amps for tone, just way stripped down and easier to use IMO. I really liked the F50 i tried.

The F series are superior in my opinion, basically because the cleans are better and the overdrive is less cludgy than the DC series.

Depends on what you like. If you like recto overdrive, go for the F series. If you like older, Mark series overdrive, go for the DC. If clean is a priority, get the F series.

Keep in mind the smaller Boogies(Dc30, F-30) use EL84's and the high power ones have 6l6's
My F-50 is a great best of both worlds amps. I had a DC30 and a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and traded them for the F-50, since it does what these two amps did

                did i hear correctly
if I want better cleans and more like a recto overdrive/distortion get the F series
                that sounds nice to me

I know this is going to sound like a rediculosu question and the answer will be "use your ears" but I find amp shopping to be very difficult because no store has all the amps i want to hear side by side, nor is the store environment suitable for a real audition (maniacs pounding bar chords with amps set on 10 in the background, etc)

so thus I ask of you mesa boogie owners
in summation, here's the amps I'm looking at and since you guys have owned them for longer than i could ever audition one, what are their differences (tone wise)

                F-30 (seems nice)
DC-30 (i think the graphic equilizer might be cool)
nomad 45 (i really like because of the solo feature)

i like single rec distortion and that old el-84 boogie clean tone
