went to GC today, not bad, no real idiots (1230 on a fri afternoon), no one playing loud.
i played a reallly really reallly nice ricenbaker 330. man, id kill for a ric. i was with my friend chris, and he tried out a 360. we did some beatles stuff, and than just jammed. i was plugged into a fender princeton, and he was into a fender champ. those things just sang.
we mostly used pauls or teles though, and tested out a bunch of amps
mesa .50 cal 1X12 combo. possibly my new favorite amp. this thing was used, at a decent price. i really liked the distortion, and the cleans were decent. a great all around amp, monster tone.
chris tried out this ampeg 2X12, i forget which one. it really sang, really really sang. it had the classic ampeg sound, oozing tone and flavor.
for gutiars though, for some reason i couldnt get warmed up. nearly every guitar i tried i felt had a really sticky next, especially any of the gibbys. i did find a takamine 12 string acoustic that i could warm up to. after tuning for 25 minutes, i finally got to play, and i really like what it could do. a great 12 string, i really wanna play more. tak's are really really nice
i ended up buying strings, picks, and stuff for the summer, this included an acoustic pickup. they were out of the duncans (i know, what a shame, they were low on almost all duncans, but had a jazz in double cream in the clearence bin for 44, too bad i had no extra $$). i ended up getting the fishman neo-d. this is based on their rare earth pickup, but is a bit cheaper. its really simple, which is nice for me. slide it on, screw it down (cork so it doesnt damage finish), and plug it in to any amp. preliminary testing is a really promosing. set to my electrics settings o nthe crate, it really sounds amazing, clear, good definition and great presence. because the signal has low impedence or something (i dont really understand) for use with preamps, you hafta turn up the amp a bit, which isnt bad at all, its a tube amp. with a few tweaks, this setup is gonna rock. the distortion channel is a bit interesting, this being a single coil in an acoustic. hum/feedback prone, especailly with my stereo system sitting next to my amp. im ognna give a more detailed review of this pup after ive used it for 2 months, but for know, try one it, mine was 60 bucks, and i realy like it. ive tried out some other acoustic pups, and this is the best one ive tried yet. beats the dean markeleys ive tried to date.
