Re: Gibson/Epihone SG Fans?
They're very light and very aggressive. It's WOLVERINE.
They're bad ass. That aggressive, snarling midrange like a pissed-off Doberman. SG rules.
But I hate Epiphone. Gibson good, Epi bad.Originally posted by Pink Unicorn HorseyDumbness on massive idiocy with the stupid dumb-dumbnity of ridiculous WTFation in the dumbass of you-idiot.Originally posted by Sosomething"How do I improve the tone of my ThrasherKidzz-O-Blaster combo??"

Re: Gibson/Epihone SG Fans?
Hello Hello-
Yeah, I've got one that I use on alot of stuff. It's a refin white '68 Standard with a re-wound bridge pickup. [Very light, too] This is one of my " I got this so cheap you won't wanna talk to me" kind-of-deals and it's one of the best SG's I've owned.
One of my fave SG players is named Ollie Halsall. He was in a band called "Patto" from around '69 to '72. Well-worth looking into!

Re: Gibson/Epihone SG Fans?
My friend has an epiphone sg special and it plays surprisingly well. The pickups aren't bad, either. I guess he was a "lucky" one. I want an epiphone g-400 (in black).
My favorite sg player is... well... if I had to choose... it'd be Angus Young. I love his tone!

See name, avatar and signature.
1966 SG Standard with Bigsby and Antiquity Humbuckers. Very bad boy!
Great SG moments:
- The Who circa 1969, including "Live at Leeds"
- Don "Buck Dharma" Roeser pre- and early Blue Oyster Cult
- "Live/Dead"
- Anytime the late John Cipollina played.
- Go see Derek Trucks!Last edited by sgstrat; 06-25-2004, 10:02 PM.John Cipollina August 24, 1943 - May 29, 1989

Re: Gibson/Epihone SG Fans?
i dig sg's, but the only i have is an esp viper, not an official sg i know. i actually more than anything dislike the lightness of sg's, it makes neck heaviness, and i just love really heavy guitars.
favorite sg players-
tony iommi
angus young
james hetfield (watch the turn the page vid if you dont beleive me)
pepper keenan
kirk windstein
as you can tell i like the metal usage of the sgOriginally posted by AcemanIt was the age of suave. Men were men, and women were smacked and thrown on the bed and loved it.

The funny thing is, Ollie and Allan Holdsworth developed very similar ways of playing completely independent of each other, they had NO knowledge of each other until they briefly crossed paths in Tempest.Hoo Hooooo Hooo Hoooooooo

I got lucky too, I have a cherry-red G-400 that plays like a dream and sounds really good w/ stock pickups, though I may consider changing the lead pup at some point (too bad SD stopped making the Holdsworth PU, that thing sounded beautiful!). The only real modification it needed was to get rid of those AWFUL Kluson pegs (Gibson uses those lame tuners as well, for shame!) and replace 'em with some good pegs.Hoo Hooooo Hooo Hoooooooo

Re: Gibson/Epihone SG Fans?
Hello Hello Owl--
Do you have the cd called "Warts and All" ?? It's a live gig that was recorded by John Halsey [Patto's drummer...] I think you can get it through the Patto website.
Yeah, I've got a BBC show with Holdsworth and Halsall playing together in Tempest...pretty interesting! Holdsworth came from studying the violin and Halsall came from studying the vibes. I've also got some Tempest stuff that was recorded live[after Holdsworth left] and it's pretty bad......maybe a little too much booze before the gig!

Re: Gibson/Epihone SG Fans?
i own both a gibson and epiphone sg. i cant say wich i like better but here are the mods that make my epiphone so great. new tuners, new pickups, changed location of master volume, loads of switches, sanded paint off the back of the neck, added cream binding around the whole body and headstock, new frets, new bridge, new tail peice, new nut, scalloped last fret, and i sanded down the wood under the top 2 screws under the neck plate so i could acheive high fret access. yep, it has gone through alot. originaly it cost 150 new and now it plays like its 1000. but i dont like to admit thats its an epiphone. its kindof emberrasing.Down at the edge, close by a river.
