  • MXR 5150 Overdrive

I have one of the new MXR 5150 Overdrive pedals. It's amazing. I love the sounds I get out of it.

Does anybody have any suggested Settings? If so what do you have?

    Thanks

Best results for me are actually running into amp modeling software. Fenderish cleans with el34 and greenbacks. I use bias and amplitube. I'm ass so no clips [emoji4]

        Re: MXR 5150 Overdrive

If it's anything like my EVH 5150iii is, this is what I like on the crunch channel.
        Bass 3
        Mids Halfway
        Treble Halfway
        Gain about 4-5
Presence at Half to just over to taste
Then I dial my volume to taste and this gets really close to the Brown Sound. The lower you keep the gain and the higher you crank the volume the Browner it gets.
I blend the 2 to get the crunch I am looking for..

On the red channel pretty much same EQ and Gain but it's just an obscene retarded amount of gain on that channel. It's pure metal to me.
The Blue channel is where the crunch is at..
That's all I got, I haven't played with the pedal but I own the amp and this is what I have dialed in after months of playing.
        I hope it helps some..

Forum bro ArtieToo was kind enough to let me borrow his for a while. Great great tones, it sounded better through my Blues Jr (with C-Rex speaker upgrade) than my Hot Rod Deluxe and, IMO, sounded better with the bridge position regardless of which guitar I was using.

Don't have any recommended settings personally, I kept the EQ settings somewhere roughly around halfway (tweak up and down as needed for each guitar.) With the drive about 75% it made my Fat 50 bridge pickup sound better than just about any pedal I've ever used.

Not to change the subject, but I was wondering if you were using it as a boost or a pre amp. I'm anxious to know how it sounds as a pre amp.

Just took a pic of it. I don't leave cables plugged in unless I'm playing.
This is a great pedal for the 5150 III Blue channel in other amps

                  Re: MXR 5150 Overdrive

Glad to hear some positive feedback on this pedal.. Ive read a mag review or two recently that says this pedal is great, but IIRC, there was a thread on this awhile back that got less than stellar reviews. Of course I know to take mag reviews with a grain or two of salt, esp when the same mag has 2 or 3 full page ads with that companies products...
Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

I never think a pedal emulating an amp is exact in tone, depth, or feel. This one is no different but I think it does really well. It gets meaty instead of bassy which I like.
