It really does sound great. It's very tight and clear. I like how the tremolo picking and the triplets sound on this thing as it very full bodied. When you turn on the bright switches it adds a lot more life to the entire pedal and makes it stand out. It sounds like an enormous wall of metal, and I think it sounds very transparent when refering to the player. I really transmits the players energy. My friend and I played it and the soudn that came out was just different.

I know, it is very odd. That's why I think it's broken. It thins everything out and it does lower the signal. I'll just use it with the to amp switch up and lower the gain on the mixer a lot. It sounds great though. I'm very satified with the purchase. Thanks a lot for all your help.

I have one on my pedalboard with a phase, flanger, and overdrive in front and a TC delay and reverb in the AMT's loop. The output goes to a ISP Stealth power amp for cabs or you can turn on the cab sim and run direct, unfortunately it's either or, there is only one output as opposed to the SS-30 which had separate outputs for power amp or cab sim.

It runs the tubes at the proper high voltages, not starved and sounds great. It has a lot of gain on the lead channel, but it kind of depends on what kind of music you play, it's more 80s/90s Vai, Lynch, maybe Moore type gain, I wouldn't quite call it modern metal.

FWIW, I've actually used the SS-11B, the SS-20, and the SS-30 and they all sound great, the 30 is FET and I really liked it too, they are all just different flavors.
The SS-20 is probably closer to modern metal than the 11A, the 30 can probably bridge the gap between the styles better, can get a little nastier than the tube ones. I actually had the 11A and the 30 at the same time and had trouble deciding which one to keep. The 20's downfall is that it's more 2-1/2 channels than 3, the crunch and lead channels have separate gain controls, but share the same volume control, although it may have been my favorite sounding one.

Hope this helps, lots of demos on youtube of all of them, definitely check them out, the demos by people that can actually play are pretty accurate.

Of course this video may nullify my statement about the 11b and modern metal.

Point is, I recommend all of them, depends on your style.
How is the SS-11B for metal? It says it's a modern, more 'metal' oriented version of the SS11.

That's definitely weird about the sim switch, pretty much opposite of what it is supposed to do, the speaker sim should roll off a lot of the highs and fatten it up. It also reduces the signal level some.

And yes, they aren't made to run into the front of an amp, it will be noisy and not sound that great.

Re: AMT SS-11B: Anyone tried it?

Sorry for taking so long to write up my opinion. Just been kind of busy and playing around with this thing. First I tried it out on my Bugera V5, which is a one channel tube amp with an 8 inch speaker. I thought the sound was good, but kind of noisey. I decided to wait until I tried it on a full sized amp and throughthe fx return. Next I tried it through a Marshall MG 100 something going thourgh the input (gotta work with what you got, one of the reasons I got this thing). To be honest it sounded a lot better, yet not as good as I was expecting.

Now for one of it's real uses which is through the fx return. WOW! The cleans, the dirt, everything was just amazing sounding! It has a lot more gain than what I could percieve on the videos I saw online I don't go past 6 on the crunch channel for the thrash sound I like. It's really clean and defined. Sure it does put out some noise, but that is expected with high gain. I'm running an MXR Badass OD to tighten the sound and make it roar like thunder. The clean is chimier than most any other pedal or amp I've ever tried without destroying your ears with ice picky-ness. It's just great: tons of bass, defined highs, throaty mids (not as honky as I like, but great), and it cuts through like butter.

The down side: I don't know if mine is faulty because when I heard it online this did not happen, but when I flip the switch to mix mode to got through the -.- mix, it did not sound so great. Not bad, but kind of thin and the highs are fuzzy and a little out of control. I just hated it. I messed with it forever and decided to just leave it in amp mode that sounds amazing even straight to the PA. It clips a lot easier, but you can always lower the gain on the mix. I haven't tried recordind so I need to check that out as well.

Bottom line: I would Definately recommend this to anyone who would not like to lug and amp around or someone who'd like to keep a simple lightweight setup that will sound amazing. I really love this thing.

Now that you guys mentioned the Legend pedals, I love the sound of the C2, B2, and D2. In order to pick between those, the ss-11b and Bulava I feel like i have no choice, but to try them out. It's a shame because I won't be able to do that here. lol. Damn! They all sound amazing!!!

Honestly I don't think you will be unhappy with any of those, why don't you send an e-mail to AMT asking their opinion on differences on these and their opinion on which of the crunch channels has more gain? I once sent an e-mail asking the tonal differences of the different SS preamps and they replied with their opinion on who each one sounds tone wise.

Dominus you are killing me, I have GAS just for the S2 which is now in stock . I am really trying to save and buy something else for bass recording at home OR ge F1 for a switchable cleaan loop with chorus/delay/reberv ala Eric Johnson.
