  • Tweak Fuzz Double-Tweak Mod

I own 3 of these Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz pedals.  I love them so much...absolutely my favorite fuzz box.

I sacrificed one of them tonight so that I could do a double-tweak-mod to one of them.  Added a 2nd footswitch that selects between the 2 different Tweak knob settings.  Makes an already super-cool pedal even more flexible and useful.

Cool mod. I always liked that pedal, should have bought one years ago rather than building and buying a bunch of different fuzzes to figure out what I like.

Cool, I always thought the Tweak Fuzz was a cool concept. The other fuzz faces and clones have replaced it for me, but I like the input cap selection.

Any pics of the whole board? How is that Boss ES-8 treating you?
      Oh no.....

      Oh Yeah!

The ES-8 is amazing...although not without fault. There are a couple of things I'd like to see changed in the firmware and they way they handle going in/out of the modes, but they aren't deal breakers. Loving it so far.

Here's what my board looked like up until very recently. I'm going through a slight re-layout this week.
The purple box top-right is a rehoused Tweak Fuzz. I'll be putting my double-tweak-fuzz on the board in the place of the H9 and need to make room for a Zoom MS-70CDR somewhere.

Yep, super cool pedal. It's totally holding it's own against a good selection of fuzz boxes that I have on hand right now. The Tweak knob makes it so versatile.

            Cool! Love the fuzzes.

Is the Boss doing patch changes in the Line 6 as well?
            Oh no.....

Yes, it's sending MIDI program changes to the H9, M9 and M5. I can also use the EV-5 expression pedal to control any of those 3 pedals.

                    Surprising, isn't it?

Of course, the fewer components, the more detail is required for selecting those components. It's a great circuit for experimentation though! Component spec variance is the reason some fuzz faces sound amazing, some sound awful and most are good. When you get into slightly more complicated circuits like a Tube Screamer or DS-1, tolerance plays less of a role and the majority of the pedals sound consistent.

Yeah. The complication in an audio circuit is making it clean and flat. (EQ wise.) Making it dirty and colored is the easy part.

I should play through mine again, I bought one off here used that has the volume mod. I guess stock it super quiet for some reason? Not sure why they made a pedal that required clipping out a part to make it more usable. Anyone know the story on that?

                          Re: Tweak Fuzz Double-Tweak Mod

                          No mods are REQUIRED.

The Tweak Fuzz is no quieter than a regular Dunlop Fuzz Face. Unity gain is at about 3 o'clock on the volume knob. At max volume it gives you a little bit of boost.
It's perfectly usable as-is, but if you want/need more volume it's an easy change to make.
