Volume boost is a feature on it, allows it to cut through the mix without needing a clean boost. There is a switch on the board but not sure if its for adjusting the pedal gain. From the samples you posted, the wah is working fine. Have yoj tried using it with a dedicated power supply instead of a battery? Also try different knoqn working patch/instrument cables with it.
Also could you post a clear picture of the inside of the pedal, the board specifically, not sure if there is a trim pot inside, if there is one use a pencil to mark its position before turning it to restore back the factory setting. My MC404 wah had a ton of boost from factory setting, it has a gain adjustment trim pot inside but not sure about the buddy wah
