Grabbed 5 minutes in the studio this morning - hope this gives you some fast-track tips (forgive the playing, I wasn't focused on performance!) ~Vince

Thanks you so much for taking the time to do that! Much appreciated.
It gives me a lot more insight into how the various pedals interact with each other (and the amp!)
I had noticed that my big muff sounded really noisy but now have seen how you can tame it !
It was good to see how you build up the tone piece by piece
And yes he did, or rather still does play a telecaster, in fact his 1st electric guitar was a tele,
He uses one on 'run like hell' 'fat old sun' to name a couple.
I am also waiting on a Boss ME80 processor so I can compare with individual pedals, I will keep the pedals though until I'm sure which is the best setup for me as I only play at home.
        Anyway, again, many thanks.

Let me just say that I admire anyone who starts playing guitar (or doing anything totally new) as a full-grown adult! Takes a certain level of something to just say "Yep, I wanna learn how to do that" and just do it.

Thanks, to be honest it's a long story!
I first picked up a guitar at about 15 year old ( an old acoustic) and had lessons for around 12 months but never really got anywhere.
Because I couldn't master it in a few months i gave up (typical teenager! )
I always had the guitar in the house and would pick it up ever few years and plonk around on it for a few days then leave it for another 5 years or so !
During the last 2 or 3 years I had a problem with my hands (trigger finger) if I clenched my hand I couldn't re open my fingers.
I had shockwave therapy on my hands and it was expensive and not very successful so wondered if I picked up the guitar again it might help!
And it has (that was around November 2015)
              I became totally addicted!
Went out and bought myself an American standard strat on new years eve (clapton signature strat)
I have always been a floyd/ gilmour fan and wanted to learn some of their stuff. (I have seen them 5 times) I now have 4 guitars, the strat and 3 acoustics, two 6 string and one 12 string .
I moded the strat for more of a Gilmour tone.
So, I had a little previous experience but not much, but now i can't leave them alone !
Anyway, I am going on a bit here so I will shut up and get back to learning the 2nd solo from comfortably numb !

You might find Richard Irons' David Gilmour article helpful in understanding some things about his rig and tone.

                    Re: Clean long sustain

The best way to sound like anybody is to play without plugging into anything. Play the electric acoustically and work at sounding like the target using your hands. Then you need a lot less technojunk to get the tones you want when you do plug in.

Always, always, always!!! Across nearly 40 years of playing, there is a direct correlation between how good an electric sounds unplugged and a) how it sounds plugged in; and b) how much I enjoy playing it.

                            Re: Clean long sustain

After practicing un-plugged, you might find that a lot more slop/noise come through when you switch back to an amp. Those little bits of imprecise playing get magnified.

Just mean it's not the best way to practice... Better results from practicing clean, but through an amp.
