Bognor Wessex or La Grange.... anyone compared them?

Just wondering if anyone here has played both and what you thought? I recently got a Bogner Red and want something to compliment it as intend getting my JTM45 revalved over the next few weeks. I'm going to put a new pedal board together so I can use it with that amp or if I do a gig with someone else's amp.

Cheers.

(Ha... iPad changed title from Bogner to Bognor)

The smaller Bogner pedals seem more like OD's from other companies, that work well in front of overdriven amps. The big Bogner pedals are more like an entire preamp channel in a box, meaning they're best in front of a fat clean tone.

One of the more impressive Marshall in a box pedals I've tried recently is the Ramble FX Marvel Drive v3.

Thanks for the replies fellas I will check those out. The Strymon shouldn't be too hard once they are in stock over here and to be honest I hadn't considered that one. As I say this will be for a dedicated board to go along with a few choice pedals for my JTM45 or other cleanish amps.

You should definitely wait until you can audition the strymon. I have two Bogner pedals, the Uberschall and the Harlow. The Neve transformer in the Harlow is brilliant, but I find that it doesn't suit every amp. My current board is set up for versatility as I never know which amp I will be using in rehearsal, though it's usually a Bruno or Dr Z.

The big Bogner pedals are much more than just a drive pedals, they add their own character and have a very amplike response. They also have CRAZY amounts of output!

I've just checked out some You Tube demo's of the Strymon and it's definitely got my interest. I'll have to find out when they are likely to ship over, thanks for the heads up.

I still need to get the La Grange. Out of the three other big Bogner pedals, I think the Red is the most redundant - the blue doesn't have nearly as much gain, but I'm always dining the master volume anyways and there's already so much overdrive coming from the power section that I actually have the blue on the the lowest gain settings - variac on/plexi/neutral/100th and then I still back off the gain knob. The red has just too much gain in this setup, and works a lot better in situations when you can't dome the master volume, and the Uberschall is just so wildly different from either that it's worth having. Hopefully the La Grange will be on the lower gain side, and not be so similar to the blue that it's redundant ($300 is pretty expensive for a redundancy). Apparently the La Grange is also supposed to be more of a plexi like overdrive+boost instead of being based off a specific amp like the XTC or Uber. I'm curious, but not in a rush. I haven't tried the smaller pedals either - I think the larger pedals are kind of versatile enough to cover the same ground (and then some more) that the smaller ones would.
