  • A Pedal every guitar player should have

There are many pedals out there that are good for many applications. But I would say that every guitar player can benefit from a looping pedal. Great for practicing scales or practicing in general just a good all around pedal period. Of course there are different brands and different functions. I believe its a must pedal for those who enjoy any type of music.

If you're just playing at home you can survive tuning to yourself or with some tuning app.

I've always wanted one. Would be cool for doing solo stuff. But... Then again, you can record backing tracks in advance quite easily and haul around a small/simple laptop rig for that purpose (and also play your guitar through it.)

Been thinking about getting a looper for the reasons mentioned. Timely.

When you've had budget guitars for a number of years, you may find that your old instrument is holding you back. A quality guitar can inspire you to write great songs, improve your understanding of the Gdim chord while in the Lydian Mode, cure the heartbreak of cystic acne--and help you find true love in the process.

Loopers sound to me what it might sound like in a madman's head.

Loopers definitely are cool and good for practice, but not a necessity by a long shot. I have no use for one. If I ever want to jam over myself I just fire up the DAW and off we go...

Yup, we live in an age where there IS no must-own pedal. 95% of all guitar players would better off investing in an iPad mini, a USB keyboard controller, and a few select apps than any pedals (or amplifiers for that matter).

A looper is certainly a necessity for me. I can tune by ear if I have to. Looping is an amazing compositional tool, and there is no better device for learning improvisation these days, short of having an on-demand rhythm players.
