  • Which BBE Sonic Maximizer for guitar?

Title says it all, pretty much. It will be used to add a little sparkle to a solid state stereo rack power amp that sounds good but lacks a little high end. Are there any differences between the models for guitar purposes?

The big difference as far as I can tell, is the input/output jacks. Some are set up for PA applications and use XLR connectors.

The Maximizer should go last in your chain, just before it hits the amp.

When you've had budget guitars for a number of years, you may find that your old instrument is holding you back. A quality guitar can inspire you to write great songs, improve your understanding of the Gdim chord while in the Lydian Mode, cure the heartbreak of cystic acne--and help you find true love in the process.

Get a used one so you don't lose money when you sell it in a few months.

I've got both the 382i and the 482i. Both the same unit, but the 482i has individual controls for both channels. I like mine, but understand, it's a very subtle effect. It's like an Aphex Aural Exciter lite. It really sounds best when listening to MP3's with headphones.

I'll let my 382i go cheap. New in the box.

Also, the Sonic Maximizer works best in the effects loop. Not so well into the front.

Just gunna chime in here and say it's (to my recollection) the only piece of gear I actually returned not due to a defect...I would get the same sound by throwing a blanket over my amp.

Isn't it peculiar that this POS has been around since probably the late 80s and people still fall for BBE's bogus esoteric technical jargon.

The guitar pedal version is Sonic Stomp.

If you must have it, there is the clone version from Behringer, Sonic Ultramizer, or the Aphex clone Sonic Exciter.

To each their own. Personally, I like what it does and since it's been around since the 80's, and is still in use, I must not be the only one.

Thanks, I am looking for a stereo rack version.

Stereo rack is great. I use a stomp for my acoustic (Aphex).

Much like a compressor - if you don't know how to use it, it'll end up an obnoxious crappy EQ. Much like a compressor - less is less.

I'd be down for that oral exciter!

Oral is your mouth. Aural is your ear. Which orifice are you looking to "excite"?

All kidding aside, the BBE unit is clearly not everyones cup-'o-tea. It's a subtle affect. But fun when it works. I like fun. YMMV.

Yeah that was basically my joke. I'll try to make my smartassism more obvious next time, although it might be hard to more obvious lol.
