  • Drive Pedal Madness!!!!!! Palladium??

Okay....here goes. I have to admit to having something of a drive pedal madness going on here.Within the last 6 months I have at some point owned the following (and in many cases still do)bunch of pedals.

    Bought & Sold:
    Bogner Burnley
    MXR 5150
    Engle Blue
    Engle Red

    Still in my possesion:
    CMATMODS Brownie
    Wampler Pinnacle
    Mooer Power Drive (FUCHS)
    Mooer Blacknight (Engle)
    Mooer Gas Station (Diezel)
    Joyo Ultimate Drive
    Blackstar LT2
    Tone City Bad Horsie
    Tone City Golden Plexi
    Digitech Bad Monkey
    Digitech Hardwire SC2
    Joyo AC Tone
    Joyo American

I think that is the majority of them. I'm running them into the front of a Fender style 6v6 low watt tube amp with a 2-12" Marshall cabinet. Not doing any gigging or recording with this setup. Just practice at home. I have larger amps and a number of smaller practice amps...Vox, Yamaha THR, Joyo Zombie, Nano Legacy Purple Wind...but I have been trying to nail down my drive sound using strictly a pedal(s). The clean sound on the amp is great and the 15 watts is just enough to jam with a drummer win the rare occasion arises. The sound I am looking for is that driven crunch with kind of a mix of modded JCM 800/Plexi "Brown" without the phaser and echoplex. The CMATMODS Brown has been the closest I have purchased so far to getting the tone I'm looking for but the lack of a 3 way EQ really keeps it from working for me. I don't need over the top amounts of gain. Really interested in the Weehbo JCM Drive because of a couple of videos and reviews I have seen but the cost is getting a bit ridiculous for something that is not my primary setup or even really my main practice rig. I'd hate to tie that much money up in one and have to deal with flipping it if I don't care for it. Little different with a hundred dollar pedal... I'm wondering if the Palladium could be "the one" for me? Do any of you guys own or have any experience with one? I see them all the time for under $200 at GC and I can return it there if I don't like it. Any other suggestions are welcome. Running staright into the clean channel.

.....and have just now scored a Carl Martin PlexiTone for $130....friend bought it from GC and still has 25 days left to return it. Figured I'd give it a shot first.

I didn't get the results I had hoped for or thought I had heard ...I didnt try recording with it. Just tried it through
the effects return and also tried it straight through the front.

Tone City Golden Plexi is supposed to be based on the Plexidrive. How to they stack against one another? Been thinking about buying at least one of them.

The Golden Plexi may work better through an amp on the verge of breakup ? Didn't work very well for me trying to use the clean channel.

The Friedman is one the pedals I have not tried yet. Seems like it may have more gain on tap than I need and I have heard that it is very comparable to the MXR 5150, which didn't work well for me either. May be the next in line to try if the Plexitone doesn't work out.

For me, I will take the Way huge Saucy. I have found my "sound". I have Wamplers, Keeley, and others. Saucy is for me. I have volume at max, little gain into my little peavey dirty channel, gain about 3 on that. I was curious last week, went to the clean channel and tried the Pinnacle, for me, no comparison

I can tell a little about the Weehbo JCM. I can tell it is totally amazing but I also can tell it is very low gain. Very amp like, but it wont give the Brownie levels of gain.

I've been there. I've since settled on a RYRA Klone and an EQD Palisades into a Marshall DSL50 and 4x12 of Greenbacks.
