The mini Katana wasn't for me. It didn't have enough gain control. Only a switch inside that put it in either clean boost mode or a higher gain mode.
I ended up flipping it on Reverb and bought an RC Booster V2. I haven't had a chance to plug that one in yet. I should have time tomorrow though.

If you are looking for boost with a little grit and color to it I would definitely recommend our Killing Floor pedal, for a totally clean and clear boost that won't introduce any coloration or add hair unless it's slamming the front end of a pushed amp or something similar, I would go for the Pickup Booster

I like having options, so usually end up keeping them both on my board if I can get away with it

I was using the BB Preamp Comp as a clean boost but it's just too good a pedal as a medium overdrive! I hated not being able to use it for its overdrive qualities so I figured the RC could take care of the clean/slightly hairy stuff (this one has 2 channels) and the BB can cover classic rock type stuff. While the Quickrod is more than capable of the high gain.

Sorry the Katana didn't work out. Hopefully the RC does it! Definitely a lot of control there.

Bummer. That was kind of my issue as well. Neither setting really spoke to my amp.

I appreciate that you sold it to me at a fair price Dave! Now I know that I'm looking for a bit more control in the boost. The mini had a perfect footprint but it seems that you give up having the space for more tonal control of the pedal....I was able to flip it and not lose any money so it worked out in the end.

I have a few errands this morning and then I'll have a chance to run the RC through its paces. I'll report back a little later.

I think the one you're referring to is the one I got. It's the traditional RC boost on one side and a higher gain circuit on the other. Scott Henderson designed. The actual SH version is a burnt red type color but I believe the chrome one is exactly the same just a different color.

The other new pedal is the Oz Noy one with RC & AC Boosters in it.

I'm looking for a clean boost to pair up with a Splawn Quickrod.
Yes the QR has gain in spades but I like what a slight boost does to it. I have been using a BB Preamp and it sounds great but it a bit too much to put in the front end of this amp. I think for me, it's better off used as a low-mid gain pedal through the clean channel.
I'm looking for something to be an "always on" pedal. Something that can make the clean channel sparkle a bit and also push he front end just a touch on the OD channel while being as transparent as possible. I don't necessarily want to change the basic tone of the amp. I like how the boost rolls off a touch of low end and tightens up the overall feel of the amp.
I have a Klon clone but it's a little thin sounding to me.
Also, I'd prefer a mini type pedal.
So far I'm thinking
1-spark booster mini
2-ep boost
Any other suggestions?
The basic tone I'm getting is 80's modded Marshall....think Ratt, Skid Row....etc.

I use the TCE Spark Mini for sheer volume (and I love the momentary function on the mini that shuts it off as soon as you lift your foot). I have an EP Booster clone as an always-on pedal with low boost for tone shaping.

I just grabbed an RC booster V2 which is pretty good. I really like the reviews of the EP booster too. The thing that makes me shy away from some of the mini pedals is the lack of a gain knob....you are ultimately at the mercy of the circuit’s design. That’s the reason the Katana Mini wasn’t for me.
The great thing about the RC V2 is the 2nd channel with an independent gain control. Essentially 2 tones in one box. I get the clean boost from ch 1, a low gain setting from Ch 2 and with all the BB Preamp I get a good classic rock tone. The Quickrod handles the rest with ease.
Yet still the EP booster intrigues me.

Technically I have four boosts on my board (which I call Mission Control). I've got a GuitarPCB Stage3 Boost that Justin from mzo.effects made me before he was mzo.effects. Then I've got an MXR Classic Overdrive (white/cream version) that I set with the volume dimed and the gain all the way down. Then I've got the Mosky XP Booster (an Xotic EP Booster clone) that I leave on all the time with the knob turned up just a tiny bit. Then the last pedal in my chain is the TC Electronic Spark Mini.

Basically, my chain is as follows:

Line6 Relay G50 wireless --> TC Electronic PolyTune 2 --> heavily modified Vox V874 (not A) wah --> Stage 3 Boost --> MXR Custom Comp --> GGG Script Phase90 --> MXR Uni-Vibe --> MXR Classic OD (green version modded with mode switch, used for actual dirt) --> MXR Classic OD (white version, boost) --> Wampler Pinnacle Deluxe V1 --> Joyo Chorus (the small blue one) --> Mosky XP Booster --> TC Electronic Flashback X4 --> TC Electronic Spark Mini
