  • Educate me on the zoom G5

Finally bit the bullet and bought a Zoom G5. (Not the g5n)

After doing some research I decided it was the nicest one I could afford. Since I found a super sweet deal on it off reverb.

    My questions:
    1. Can I download patches for it?
    2. Where from?
    3. Is there a Zakk Wylde patch warbly chorussy autowah kind of patch available?
    4. Any of you guys rocking a patch that we can share?
    5. Is that even possible?
    6. Anybody else have one?

Thanks, haven't had much time to look around yet. Been too busy with summer break.

Educate me on the zoom G5

    I use one:

I’m very pleased with it, but I like using it in stompbox mode rather than scrolling through patches. I‘m able to get pretty much any tone I want out of it, but I play in a cover band, so I was finding myself constantly changing patches and switching back and forth between patch mode and stompbox mode. I finally decided to add additional pedals for overdrives/distortions and a delay so I could just set up one patch and use it as 8 pedals. Right now it’s set up as (in left-to-right order):

    • ZNR
    • Wah100
    • Graphic EQ
    • RackComp
    • Tremolo
    • VinFLNGR
    • Chorus
    • Spring Reverb

I keep it in stompbox mode with the compressor, tremolo, flange and chorus showing. I have the Z-Pedal set to increase the reverb when turned left, the toe button and up/down are for the wah and turning right increases wah volume. Then (of course) there’s the tube booster which I use for solos.

    But that’s just me...

I was able to find patches to download by just doing a Bing search. Zoom doesn’t have an official collection, but there are several sites that have them available to share. Personally I like coming up with my own things, but downloading patches is a great way to find some cool sounds where someone else has done the hard work or for getting a better handle on how different effects react with one another. You’ll likely find multiple versions of something and you’ll want to download and try them all in order to listen side-by-side and find the one(s) that work best for you. No way around it... some will just suck, but you can also find some cool ones.

I’d be happy to share patches with you, but the ones I’ve come up with are pretty basic.

Looks like a monster version of my G3!!!!

I'm pretty sure all of that is out there. Just don't know where. I only use my G3 for FX in the loop.
