Any thoughts on the HoF mini?

I recently got a HoF mini which I run through my Vox Ac 15 but I'm not really pleased with it. All of the toneprints are very similar and there isn't one rich, full reverb tone. I got the mini because I didn't want to take up much space on my pedalboard, but the sound I get is a dealbreaker. Is the regular HoF better or should I go for the EHX Ocean's 11?

I know the Ocean's series from EH is seriously deep. If you don't like the HoF, I doubt you would like the bigger version. Does the small version allow you to tweak the TonePrint software?

I love the original HoF (full size) and so do many, many professionals. You see it on a lot of pedalboards. I have one.

When the next version, the HoF2, was released I bought one of those too and it's just as good as the original, or even better.

The HoF2 offers some pschedelic reverbs too!

Get a HoF2. Or a used original HoF.

There's no way you could be disappointed unless the sound you're after is something other than what reverb lovers call reverb.

Yes, which is what makes it amazing, IMO! Here is how I use it from 6 years ago.

Well... I took a shot on a used Hall of Fame Mini. This thing is awesome, definitely got a spot on my "grab and go" rock board. (I have a Blue Sky and Supermoon for my main, big board) I basically configured a plate reverb with modulation... However I tied the (single) knob to the following parameters:

-Fx Mix (ramping up like the stock model)
-Modulation Mix (0% for the first half of the sweep, then increasing from there)
-Decay (Ramping up from ~2 seconds up to ~8 seconds at max)

This is awesome, for the first 1/4 of the sweep its a subtle plate reverb, the next quarter is a little longer and higher mix reverb, then you start to get some modulation with the reverb, then the final quarter is a heavily effected modulated long verb.

With the sweep of one knob I can add a little "air" to the tone, up to a 70's/80's Rock reverb a la VH, then various levels of modulated delay for shoegazey/post-rock style washes. Just need to tweak the dry level at the top of the range. I might have to pickup some of the other TonePrint pedals, this one is very powerful but easy to tweak.

OK, so it is just a matter of getting into the software and seeing if the options allow you to get the sound you think it should have. That software is pretty remarkable.

The mini2 has the tone knob. Just a bit of roll-off and the echo will sound darker. Maybe that's why you don't like the mini1..?

I have the regular hof2 and it's all I will ever need.
I also have a Boss rv6. It's a great pedal and I could easily be thrilled with it alone,,,,,, of the two, hof2 is my pick.

i like the regular HoF more than the mini, but that's only because i'm an old school knob twirler and don't like the toneprint stuff. hall of fame sounds great, and i like it more than the oceans 11 EXCEPT for the spring reverb. the oceans 11 spring reverb is amazing and i bought the pedal just for that mode.

Really depends on your needs. These days, I recommend the Mini to the casual Reverb searcher.

"I just want reverb" Get the Mini, pick a tone print, and go on with it
"I just want {THAT} reverb" Get the Mini, download software and edit, and go on with it.
"I wan't a few kinds of tweak able on the fly Reverbs" - Get the Full Size HOF
"I want to tweak the bejeezus out of my Uber-reverbs" - Go get an Uber-Reverb: Strymon, so on, and so forth...

For the basic verb user, it is really hard to argue with the Mini and a Toneprint. It's ten reverbs (or more) in one, which is ten times what most of us had in an amp forever.

That said - if you know what reverb you need...Spring, Plate, Fender, etc...there are a bunch of great pedals too.

I have been an EHX Grail fan forever. These days, the Grail Plus for tweaking, or the Neo Grail for basic reverb types.

Have 3 amps with loops and no on board verb. For those have a HOF Mini and it sounds fantastic. Just use the tone print patch you want set it and forget it. The HOF Mini is small simple quiet and great sounding plus affordable so what's not to like. For more involved verb for things like an ambient wash I also have a Oceans 11 and a Digitec Polara but for just a single basic verb I'm running the HOF Mini.

After having read the comments above, I decided to go one toneprint at a time and I think I'm quite pleased with what I found. Thanks to everyone for the advice.
