  • Just Ordered A Seymour Duncan Diamondhead Pedal

I heard several youtube videos and liked what I heard enough to convince the wife to let me buy it.

You have to come back and give a review. Not many people here even know about that pedal.

I read through this when they sent it a few days back. I really like the looks of the Palladium! Great design and with para-mids.

The first distortion pedals hit the scene in the 1970s. While fuzz had staked its claim as the first dirt pedals, they were too unfocused in the low end.

i like the palladium a lot. i got one cause i liked the idea of it and heard robben ford say that he liked it. i totally get what he said and its a great pedal. its like a good tuned 5150 preamp with a lot of eq control. for me, its not really my sound (which robben also said) but it feels and sounds damn good. i think the diamond head is more tonally in my ball park so curious how you like it

It's funny. I'm kinda in this same boat. Loved 'em both when I first got them. (Palladium and 5150, I mean.) But I just was swapping them side by side with my Tri-Parallel mixer, and relized that neither is really my cup 'o tea. I'll have to decide what to do with them. Or try tweaking them a bit more to my flavor.

I normally prefer a Fuzz sound over a Distortion sound, but I must say...this thing sounds pretty bad ass.

              Parametric mids! :o

...one thing I've dreamed of having, ever since I lost my Peavey Centurion 130w head (that had a fully parametric midrange, WITH Q-control) :/.

Very few pedals (except too-expensive studio ones) seem to have this feature.

              Hope you will be pleased.

Yeah, parametric mids are really a great thing to have. The ENGL Steve Morse head has like 5 knobs dedicated to mids, and you can get a ton of sounds out of it. A few mid controls in a pedal is a really great idea.

What is the advantage of parametric vs something like a 31 band 1/3 octave graphic , aside from the amount of space that it takes up?

if you had a 31 band eq built into the pedal, i dont know if parametic mids would matter. the difference is its practical to put a two knob mid eq in a pedal and not so much 31 sliders

being able to select the frequency center to boost or cut on a dirt pedal is really nice

I wasn't thinking so much for a pedal as a full size amp head.
Certainly in a pedal parametric can be much more space saving.

Makes me want an amp with parametric or two in the pre-gain and a 31 band for the power stage.

thats a lot of control for sure but never seen an amp with even an 11 band graphic eq and im sure its usually at the end of the preamp chain, not in the power section. not sure how that would work.

If I had the cash to do so, believe me, I'd find out.

And I probably meant that the graphic would go at the end of the preamp before the power stage. But the standard b/m/t tone stack would be replaced by three parametrics.
