"Most" boosts need two knobs max. I would group them into three categories (which is probably going to get me in a lot of trouble.). These are generalizations and do not cover all of the hundreds of boost pedals out there.

Clean boost, adds no color - SD Pickup booster, EHX LPB-1
Boost adds color dynamics - Rangemaster, Bohiemium Boost, Xotic EP Boost,
Boosts one frequency or range - Systech Harmonic Energizer, Triskelion, MOOG Drive

How is the Seymour Duckman pickup booster?

I'll through one more out there: the Brian May Treble Booster Classic. It has 3 different boosters in it (flick of a switch), including the Dallas Arbiter Rangemaster, made for single coil guitars to drive amps, and only one knob to adjust the behavior. Has to be first in the chain, however, because the circuit interacts with the pickups. That's how you get clean chime turned down and roll into singing leads when turned up.

It's worth getting on the waiting list if they are out. It was only be a couple months or so between runs when I ordered mine.

Personally, I use the overdrives more as colored boosts than actual drive pedals. To each his own.

TMD, can. you list your actual signal chain you plan on using without adding the boost?

I guarantee several of you pedals have the exact boost stage you want already in the output stage.

Unless you are looking for a different pickup interaction with the first pedal by placing a boost as the first pedal or looking for tone shaping aspects of a certain boost pedal it's probably a redundant pedal in your current rig.

Pretty much the same circuit as the Xotic EP Boost I suggested. Both are based on the preamp in the Echoplex.

Just that you had so many at the ready to list off hand.

It's so many pickups that one pickup booster likely isn't going to work for you if you use all of those regularly.

Pickup boosters are going to work differently with SC and HB etc etc.

I still think a Echoplex type like a Catalina or Xotic EP preamp is a good place to start -or one of the Duncan Pickup Boosters -Mincer raves about them.

I am thinking about ordering one myself. Both Page and EVH used the Echoplex preamp without the echo to push their Marshalls. I like that the Catalinbread allows you to adjust the saturation of the preamp.
