  • New pedal disappointment

I got this little Boost pedal made by Nu-X.
Supposed to take a signal and just make it louder.
I figured I could use it as a tiny solo boost when I am running a tiny rig on stage.... (With a smaller amp that doesn't have the solo boost feature)

I can hear a little bit of change, but.... Am I missing something?
    The decibel meter doesn't lie.

    Thoughts?
I tried even running it thru the effects loop to no avail....
my Mxr EQ boost trick works better than this....

It does nothing and you have it pinned. Most of my boosts I am not using past 9-11 o'clock.

Well, it isn't a Pickup Booster, that's for sure.

How high output are your pickups? If it's a wimpy enough boost, your pickups may already be at the higher end of it's output range.

            How compressed is your amp

If you have the gain maxed out

It's probably squashing the boost with compression

Yeah...but he put it in the loop too. Should work there regardless.

Did you try it on clean? Do you own an amp that plays clean? LOL

I can't listen to the clip as it's late and I don't want to wake anyone up, but one of my pedals that has OD/clean boost.

Through one of my amps the clean boost does effectively nothing. Through the other it provides a very significant volume boost.

Perhaps it might be a similar situation and it depends on the amp.

I think a few of my amps can do clean??? Haven't ever tried.

This amp in the video was on gain setting of like 3 or 4.

My pickups are always hot and sassy, this one is a black winter.

It's just not working at all ha ha ha I really am stumped.

I just went out and fiddled with it some more through my simple test rig. The Joyo Jackman at super low gain. Zero other effect pedals.

I figured out that it can cut volume! So there's that! Maybe it's not Totally worthless? Anyone want to buy a pedal that sucks tone and cuts volume hit me up! I'll send it to you cheap!

I can't tell through your clips, but I'm just gonna hazard a guess because your playing sounds hella compressed with it turned on. Try it with your guitars volume at the lowest setting you can get noise on. If your input volume is higher than it's loudest output volume, it will just compress.

With a SMT circuit their is very little chance of your problem being a manufacturer defect. If it's FET it's possible it doesn't have the highest headroom for anything beyond a vintage single coil or PAF.

I can hear a difference when you turn it on and off but it's definitely not that drastic. I have one of those little Joyo amps too and you're definitely already hitting the input really hard to get that much distortion with those settings.
