Seeing the DOD 250 and D+ are the same circuit, isn't this just another D+ like Randy's but with yet another paint job? Is the Alex Lifeson D+ going to be white with a red maple leaf on it?

If an artist lends their name to something, most likely there was an initial lump sum paid, and then a % from every one sold. It can add up to a lot of money.

I get it, and I get the business side of it, but really curious how many of these will sell 10K , 100K? I don't know what thier profit margin is but 10% is killing it, do they make obscene profit on these? In my business if we make 20% on something we are dancing on the ceiling. Do you think He is getting more than 5%?
100 K units x $129 =12.9 Million
12.9 M X .20 = 2.58 M
2.58 M x .05 (percentage to YJM?) = 129K
129K - 30% to managers, lawers, accountants = 90K
90k - taxes 35% ? = $58,695
Am I off base? if so I am happy to be corrected. If there are just over a million pedals sold every year there is no way there is going to be that big a share of them being these. And I think folks think he makes piles of money on these deals but I don't think it's near what reality is. Not that I wouldn't drive a $50K check to the bank and cash it. Just curious, how many sets of the YJM pickups have sold? I love mine. .

I don't think any company would reveal actual sales numbers, but I do know artist involvement really does drive the whole MI industry. Think about how difficult it must be for, say, a private pedal maker to get that pedal in the hands of someone who plays to 1000's every night. Artists know that their endorsement is worth something, and bigger artists do charge quite a bit for it.

I get it, but if it is a “limited run” so 10K units and they make $80 profit per unit and you give YJM say 10% that’s 80K minus favors and expenses that still 40-50k. So still around 40-50k. Unless he’s getting 50% or something crazy, which is possible I suppose. I still feel like it’s not as much as people think. But what do I know.

Yep, and it gives them something to market and talk about which helps move the other products as well.

Already have a DOD 250 which I will make do with. I don't mind endorsed/artist stuff if it brings something drastically different to the table that the artist is known for (like a Malmsteen Strat/Scalloped neck). But just slapping a famous name on something to sell a slightly tweaked product isn't something I'm falling for ..especially if it also comes at double the price

Same here. Especially with instruments. I don't like signature models to just mix things from existing models or just have a new paint job. I wanna see something wild. Give me Uli Roth's Sky guitar or Albert Lee's Music Man. As far as pedals go, I don't want just tweaked component values...give me features the originals didn't have.

As long as we are going here - a current item that someone needs smacked in the head with, that falls into the "Anything for a buck" fail:

Adam Jones Silverburst LP STANDARD
- Silverburst never came in Standard. Just make a Standard Silverburst if that's what you want
- Jones used a Custom exclusively
- The 70's guitars had maple necks, the standard has a mahogany
- Custom block inlays vs crowns...
- Jones plays a Duncan Distortion (only pickup for a Silverburst, really, IMO), the Standard doesn't;t even have a 500t!!!
- All for $2999

Meanwhile - Epiphone makes a Custom with ALL good stuff (including maple neck/ebony) for $1499

So basically, you get a unique colored standard, missing one pickup cover, for $3k - seriously? Just no.

Why I love my Budokan. It isn't just a 3 pickup Cherry Sunburst. It isn't a signature piece. It's an exact reproduction.
