Tried A Different OD Pedal To Use For Overdrive Stacking

I was using a Wampler Belle in front of my Fuch's Plush Valve Job and as that was good, I tried my EHX Soul Food in place of and the improvement was huge for that particular pedal lineup. I'll use the Wampler on another pedalboard.

Can you describe the tone that's giving you. The only time I can remember stacking OD's was one Arion Tubulator into another. But I doubt that's in the same league as what you're doing.

I know that OD stacking is a huge thing that lots of people love to do . . . but I've never found a combination of pedals that I like better than tweaking a single pedal. If I stack mid-gain pedals then things are too muddy or noisy, and if I stack with low gain it always seems like the characteristic of the last pedal in the chain kinda takes over the signal. I must be missing something.

Honestly, it always sounded like too big a rabbit hole for me. It is hard enough to find one Overdrive I like- and I tend to use an Overdrive as the only source of distortion into a clean Fender amp.

The character of the last pedal in the chain taking over the signal is what you're going for -- the goal of this is to typically juice up a mid-gain pedal that you like with a bit of compression and shaping from a low-gain pedal. It's like boosting an amp, except you're boosting a pedal.

I've had good luck stacking overdrives, but it takes some trial and error and a little patience to figure out good pairings and dial 'em in just right

I've enjoyed a few different "dual OD" pedals, as well.

I like doing my Palladium into my Twin Tube Classic. But the TTC isn't really a "distortion" box 'til you dime the Gain knob on the Lead channel.

i stack ods from time to time. and yes, the second pedal sets a lot of the character for sure. i use the first pedal to augment the 2nd, more gain, more mids, more sustain... these days i tend to use an eq pedal for the same role more often than not
