  • High output pickups sound worse thru solid state amps?

Are ceramic or high output pickups generally more harsh/grainy sounding thru solid state amps, rather than alnico 2-5 pickups?

I think it depends on whether you're processing the signal, because once you do process, it makes no difference whether you're using tubes or transistors. BUT, if you're running straight in, you probably will notice a slightly "tighter" bottom end with the solid state amp, and the highs may be noticeably more shrill or present than in the tube amp.

          that's uninformed opinion.

my Invader sounds impressive through my Peavey ss amp, i plug straight in, no pedals in between. yes i hear a more pronounced treble response compared to a tube unit (for all pickups i own) but that's what the EQ knobs are for.

I had a JB in my ESP running through a Crate SS half stack. and people would ask me how i would get that incredible tone. the only processing i had was a tremolo pedal, a chorus pedal and an ibanez lo-fi pedal - all used VERY sparingly and placed in the effects loop.
